Reception Centres Report February 2023

The seven active reception centres in Borno State recorded an overwhelming number of new arrivals, mainly operating over their carrying capacity in February 2023. In most cases, the IDPs overstayed (over 72 hours) at the reception centres, with some sleeping outside or in overcrowded spaces. In February 2023, 29,568 individuals were recorded in all 7 RCs, with 59% of the total number are children up to 17 years. 1,468 families 4,446 (individuals) of new arrivals were registered in all active Reception centres across 5 LGAs (Bama, Dikwa, gwoza, Monguno and Ngala) in Borno state. Out of 10,031 families only 5,716 benefitted from in kind food distribution. 
In comparision to all the RCs Gwoza hosts the highest numbers of IDPs in reception centres with Pulka ward accomodating 4,756 families with 11,465 individuals while a further 1,056 families with 3,054 individuals have taken shelter in the Gwoza RC. In Ngala there are 1,491 families with 3,945 individuals are living in the highly congested RC with a capacity of 100 families. To ease the burden of the new arrivals, some have been referred to relatives in the camps and host community causing more protection risks.
