The Global Camp Coordination and Camp Management CCCM Cluster launches its 2024 participation in the 16 Days of Activism campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), running from 25 November to 10 December. This year’s global theme, “towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls” and the theme of the Global GBV AoR “Tracing the Origins: Standing Against GBV" highlight the urgent need for investment, action, and collaboration to create a world free from GBV.
Every day, violence occurs against women and girls worldwide, and conditions caused by displacement from conflict and climate crises increase their vulnerability to human rights violations. CCCM Cluster is committed to this global movement to ensure their safety and dignity. CCCM cluster is playing a vital role in reducing GBV risks and empowering communities through protective measures and inclusive approaches. This requires understanding and addressing the needs of all Internally displaced persons - IDPs, including women and girls, through continuous sectoral monitoring, from healthcare and protection to shelter and WASH. The CCCM Cluster conducts assessments, collaborates on safety audits with protection actors, and emphasizes consultation with women and girls to ensure their meaningful participation in decision-making processes within site governance structures.
Much has been achieved in recent years, thanks to the commitment of partners and the broader humanitarian community. By providing guidance, strengthening capacity, and advocating for safer, participative approaches, significant progress has been made. However, much more remains to be done to achieve our collective goal. In response to an unprecedented number of crises worldwide, the CCCM Cluster renews its commitment to better protecting women and girls during internal displacement. This includes strengthening women’s leadership, supporting community-led projects, and providing tools for practitioners and communities to mitigate and prevent violence.
CCCM practitioners will continue consulting with women and girls, listening to their needs, and ensuring safe access to services and information. Cooperation across sectors, particularly with GBV specialists, is vital to prevent harm and safeguard survivors. CCCM Cluster will enhance the cooperation, support women participation at all stages of humanitarian responses, and collaborate closely with women-led organizations to build safer, more inclusive environments. Together, through continued investment and solidarity, CCCM cluster aims at creating a future where women and girls live free from violence, wherever internal displacement occurs.
