On August 14, 2024, celebrating World Humanitarian Day, a reforestation event was organised at the Temporary IDP Site in Gourga, Ouahigouya, to address deforestation and social tensions linked to firewood scarcity. The initiative, led by the Mixed Community Committee (CCM) and supported by the Ministry of Environment and international NGO Acted, involved displaced people and host communities planting 100 drought-resistant trees. These trees aim to combat desertification, enhance local living conditions, and foster social cohesion. Acted also provided protective grids from local artisans with disabilites to safeguard the trees and promote inclusivity. This initiative will be replicated across the region to promote environmental restoration and community empowerment.
