Reception Centres Report January 2023

In the month of January 2023, 29,704 individuals were recorded in all 7 RCs, with 62% of the total number are children up to 17 years. 1,340 families (5,002 Individuals) of new arrivals were registered in all active Reception centers across 5 LGAs (Bama, Dikwa, Gwoza, Monguno, and Ngala) in Borno state. Out of the 9,988 families only 5,750 benefitted from a form of food distribution. Most highted military operations, poor living conditions, and voluntary relocations for safety as reasons for the movements. 
In comparison to all the RCs Gwoza hosts the highest numbers of IDPs in reception centers with Pulka ward accommodating 4,500 families with 10,901 individuals. while a further 1,896 families have taken shelter in the Gwoza RC. As much as efforts of decongestion are still ongoing, the situation on ground calls for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to ensure improved living conditions of those affected and received across all the 7 RCs.
In Ngala there are 1,461 families are living in the highly congested RC with a capacity of 100 families. To ease the burden of the new arrivals, some have been referred to relatives in the camps and host community causing more protection risks.
