WEBINAR: Women’s Participation and Leadership in the Rohingya Refugee Response: Lessons from the Women’s Committee

Participation

Dear CCCM practitioners,

On 12 March at 11am (CET), the Participation in Displacement Working Group of the Global Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster will be organizing a webinar titled ‘Women’s Participation and Leadership in the Rohingya Refugee Response: Lessons from the Women’s Committee,’ based on the project done by IOM in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

The Women’s Participation Project was piloted by IOM Cox’s Bazar in 2018 to better understand how women’s participation in governance structures in camps and camp-like settings could contribute to mitigating and reducing the risks of gender-based violence (GBV). To date, this pilot intervention has evolved as a best practice model that is currently being scaled up across the Rohingya refugee response. Megan Denise Smith, head of GBV programming at IOM Cox’s Bazar will provide a snapshot of key lessons learned from the project, focusing on the achievements and challenges of the Women’s Committee in Leda Makeshift Camp as well as cross-cutting issues related to disability inclusion and social cohesion that can be applied to other similar interventions.

The findings and practical recommendations are based on a camp setting however this project is also relevant for those who are working on women’s empowerment/participation and community-based protection.

The webinar will be hosted on Zoom, which you can access through this link:
